From Cedar Canvas to Olympian Paddler: Alanna Bray-Lougheed

Chapter member Sandra Bray's daughter, Alanna, is competing in the Tokyo Olympics this summer! Alanna Bray-Lougheed has been on Canada's national sprint kayaking team since 2012. Her exciting career recently culminated in two gold medals in the 500 metre K2 and K4 races at the 2019 Pan Am games.

 


It turns out that Alanna's first forays into paddling were in a cedar-canvas at the family cottage near Fraserburg, Ontario. 



The July 2021 issue of Unique Muskoka magazine features the story about her  journey from paddling a wooden canoe on the Muskoka River to the elite paddling world of sprint kayaking. The article starts on page 48 of the current issue which can be viewed online at the link below:
